Bachelor's Programme in Sociology of Work and Welfare
Language of instruction
Students should have passed 60 ECTS including ME-100 Research Methods in Social Science.
On successful completion of the course the student should be able to:
formulate a problem for discussion and analyse it
provide an overview over what is already known within the subject area of the thesis
gather, analyse and present data in a stuctured and professionally satisfactory way
have an awareness of any ethical issues linked to the research process
evaluate and refer to sources in an accurate and critical manner
use theories and methods within the subject field
have a comprehensive knowledge of the chosen major subject
The contents of the course is closely linked to the student's work with the bachelor thesis. The objective of the course is to give the students the opportunity to immerse themselves in a chosen subject, and provide practice in working independently with scientific literature and questions. Additionally the course provides practice in writing a thesis that complies with the demands of scientific arguments and presentations.
The major topics of the thesis should be linked to core areas of the bachelor studies. The students should formulate a problem for discussion, gather information and search for relevant theories as a basis for their analysis in the bachelor thesis.
Lectures will introduce the students to various theoretical perspectives, research methods and traditions.
The main mode of study is the student's independent work with the thesis as well as a few lectures and seminars. The students are expected to be active participants in the seminars and lectures. They will receive tutoring on their thesis either individually or in groups.
Parts of the lectures and seminars are compulsory, further information will be made available in the schedule plan in Canvas at the start of the semester.

Written bachelor thesis. Graded assessment
The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
