Literature and Culture 2

The course requires previous knowledge of Spanish equivalent to level 2 from upper secondary school and level B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. It is recommended to have completed SPA116, Literature and Culture 1. It will be very laborious to follow the course without prior knowledge.

Knowledge:

Upon completion of the course students shall have knowledge about

• Selected texts, themes, and questions in current Spanish Literature
• basic literary analysis
• the historical and cultural contexts in which the literature exists

Skills:

Upon completion of the course students shall be able to

• Understand complex literary texts in Spanish
• Analyse literary texts and other cultural expressions in an independent and reflective manner
• View texts in their historical and cultural context
• Express themselves in Spanish about literature, orally and in writing
• Master different communication situations in Spanish, orally and in writing
• Master central language structures in Spanish
• Communicate in Spanish with good pronunciation and intonation

General competency:

Upon completion of the course, students shall be able to:

• Gather information about relevant subject material in Spanish
• Analyse subject material in an independent and critical way
• Present topics within the course both orally and in writing in a structured way
• Master different academic genres in Spanish, orally and in writing

Lectures, seminars, workshops, and groups. Student active methods and the use of digital tools for learning will be applied. For students in the advanced teacher education, levels 8 to 13, there will be a period with professionally supervised teaching experience. Student-active participation in practical exercises is necessary for the development of good language proficiency, thus, there is a mandatory attendance requirement. The workload is estimated at 400 hours.

A portfolio with mandatory activities must be assessed as a pass. The activities will be described in the semester plan.

The mandatory attendance requirements must be met and approved.

Students in the advanced teacher education: The professionally supervised teaching practice must be completed and approved.

All other students: A project work must be assessed as a pass.

A four-hour individual written examination under surveillence (50%)

An oral examination (50%).

Both parts must be assessed as a pass. The final grade will reflect both content and language.
