Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course the students shall
Knowledge
Have broad knowledge about the relationship between religious and ethnical majorities and minorities in Norway, Malaya and Sri Lanka
Have insight into how Muslims, Christians, Hindus and Buddhists live their religious lives
Have knowledge about internal religious diversity
Skills
Be able to reflect on philosophical and practical problems related to various forms of religious dialogue
Have acquired the ability to argument for religious points of view to which you personally do not agree
Be able to reflect on different ways of presenting the topic when teaching religion, life-views and ethics in school
General competence
Have acquired the ability to cognitive empathy and thereby understand people who think and act differently from oneself
Course contents
The course gives an introduction into how Asian Muslims, Buddhists, Christians and Hindus practice religion in their daily life. The course sheds light on the relation between majority and minority, religion and ethnicity, and between religion and politics. In addition, it gives an introduction to religious dialogue and internal religious diversity.
Teaching methods
Lectures. An individual assignment. The work load is estimated to approximately 270 hours.
Examination requirements
The assignment must be approved.
Assessment methods and criteria
A 3-day individual home examination in Mid- February (3000 to 4000 words). Graded assessment.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.
