On successful completion of this course the students should be able to:
identify business challenges and opportunities within supply chain management.
understand the relationship between organizations and their suppliers
use the value chain concept to evaluate and understand how core competencies of organizations drive competitive advantage.
apply inter-organizational theories to B2B coordination processes.
use logistics and purchasing concepts and tools to improve supply chain operations.
understand and apply agile and lean supply chain management concepts.
analyze international logistics challenges of a firm.
apply quality management tools for supply risk mitigation strategies.
understand the difference between service and manufacturing supply chains
understand the complexities of global supply chains
to communicate effectively and present clearly ideas to a variety of audience including supply chain managers.
Course contents
The main objective of this course is to give the student intermediate level knowledge of the concepts, theoretical perspectives and practical implications of supply chain management (SCM). The course focuses on managerial processes related to inter-firm coordination of supply and production of goods and services in supply chains. Upon successful completion of this course the student should be able to identify and analyze theoretical issues and managerial actions that can improve supply chain performance.

Terminology and conceptual models in supply chain management
Planning and control of materials flow
Logistics performance measures
Lean and agile supply chain management
Logistics service providers
Supply chain risk and resilience
Teaching methods
Lectures, excursions, group work. More information will be given in Canvas at the start of the semester. Estimated workload is about 200 hours.
Examination requirements
Group presentation in class.
Assessment methods and criteria
4-hour written examination which comprises 60% of the grade. Assignment which comprises 40% of the grade. Letter grades. More information will be given in Canvas.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.
