Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this course the students should be able to demonstrate:
an understanding of corporate governance issues - both in Norway and internationally.
an awareness of how corporate governance challenges vary by organizational objective (profit vs. non-profit) and global focus (domestic vs. international).
knowledge of the historical development of corporate governance policies around the world.
skills in formulating and implementing corporate governance theory to real-life business cases.
ability to apply research tools for gathering and processing corporate governance related information.
ability to develop a comprehensive plan for addressing potential corporate governance weaknesses of a business or non-profit organization.
Course contents
The objective of this course is to provide the students with an introduction to the research frontier in corporate governance - and its implication for corporate practices. The course takes a cross-disciplinary approach; capitalizing on research from economics, finance, management, strategy, and accounting.
Teaching methods
Lectures, discussions and participation in group projects.
Examination requirements
At least two approved mandatory assignments and/or oral presentations.
Assessment methods and criteria
4-hour written examination (comprises 60% of the final mark) and portfolio assessment (comprises 40% of the final mark). Information about the requirements for folder content will be given at the start of the semester.
Evaluation
