Learning outcomes
After completion of the course, students should be able to
produce adequate and correct translations of LSP texts from English into Norwegian
identify and deal with specific challenges in translation of LSP texts from English into Norwegian
consider, choose and justify appropriate translation strategies, using adequate terminology
post-edit machine-translated texts
use CAT tools
extract terms and set up term lists
Course contents
Focus will be on
developing translation competence through work with LSP texts
linguistic and cultural analysis of various text types and genres
identification and discussion of specific translation challenges
translation of various LSP genres and text types with correct terminology, phraseology, etc.
training in information retrieval in connection with translation
use of CAT tools
work with machine-translated texts
terminology work
Teaching methods
Teaching will be in the form of lectures and student work, group work, use of CAT tools. Workload: 270 hours.
Examination requirements
Five individual assignments and 3 prepared in groups, must be submitted and approved. At least two assignments must be in the student’s secondary language form, nynorsk or bokmål.
Assessment methods and criteria
Portfolio with 2 of the 7 individual assignments. Further information will be provided by the professor. Graded assessment.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.
