Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students shall:
have knowledge of different styles within different traditions and genres
have acquired technical skills in two contrasting disciplines
be able to apply different methods for efficient and goal-oriented rehearsing techniques
be able to apply their knowledge of genre and style to their main areas, both within an ensemble and a soloist context (also in their own compositions if applicable)
be able to work independently in and with ensembles
acquire broad knowledge about repertoire for their main areas
Course contents
Course includes:
developing musical performance skills
developing a personalized expression of performance
knowledge of relevant rehearsal techniques and development of practice routines
playing together in different ensembles
participation in concerts with ensembles aimed at different audiences
work with interpretation in ensembles, playing-by-ear and improvisation
Teaching methods
The course is conducted through individual lessons and group lessons. During the course, the student will participate in different projects and seminars. Each student will receive tuition in both disciplines (individually and in ensemble). The tuition resources will be allocated 70/30 in favor of the students main discipline. There will be room for flexible organising of the various projects. Attending the lessons is compulsory.
Expected workload for an average student is 27 hours per credit.

Approved participation on minimum 1 concert per main area, hosted by UiA

Assessment methods and criteria
Part 1: Main area 1 will be conducted as a 15 minute practical test either individually or in groups. The test should reflect the work done within the selected classical main instrument discipline, and is scheduled together with a teacher.
Part 2: Main area 2 will be conducted as a 10 minute practical test either individually or in groups. The test should reflect the work done within the selected secondary discipline, and is scheduled together with a teacher.
Assessment: Pass/fail
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.
