Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, students shall:
have knowledge of which role music plays in society’s socio-cultural life
have knowledge of forms of musical communication/presentation that have been developed within cultural instititions during the previous decade
be able to plan, execute and assess musical communication/presentation and interaction projects focussing on dialogue
be able to describe and take part in social situations in which musicians perform together
Course contents
The course has its starting point in the meaning of music at both an individual and a societal level. It has three sub-division: Music in a multi-cultural society, Music and therapy, Creative musical activity and in workshops. The core is the development of communication/presentation skills through practice-based projects as well as studies of related theory.
Teaching methods
The course is conducted through supervised projects, student presentation and practical exercises.
Expected workload for an average student is 27 hours per credit.
Examination requirements
Recognized compulsory attendance for the lessons
Recognized participation in two dialogue-based musical projects
Assessment methods and criteria
Individual project assignment that must include a description and evaluation of a completed practice-based project. Weighting: 50%
Indivual oral test related to both the project described and the course curriculum. Weighting: 50%. Assessment: Graded A-F
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.
