On successful completion of the course, the student should: - Know some of the possibilities and challenges concerning the use of social media. - Understand virus and other malware. - Being able to navigate the web in a safe way. - Understand the use of references and sources gathered online. - Be able to use different tools and software in educational situations as well as for assessment and presentations. - Understand the use of digital exams and the tools connected to it.
We encounter many technical challenges and different types of digital tools and software in our everyday life. Some of this might be of great help; others can even prove to be dangerous. Sometimes it can also prove difficult to determine which challenges are real and which ones one can discard. This course will provide a basic understanding and suggested use of software that is relevant for pedagogues. This includes digital exams. The course will also provide an overview of social media and the possible use and misuse of these. In addition to this, the course will include elements concerning malware, viruses and basic rules for safe use of the Internet.
Detailed study guides with learning tasks and activities, learner focused approach with tutor support, many-to-many communication, group work, negotiation of meaning in asynchronous threaded discussions, video lectures, peer tutoring and online quizzes. Group hand-ins in addition to individual hand-ins. There will be two workshops dedicated to this course and the students will be given access to all relevant materials.
Compulsory assignments must be approved in order to take the examination. Information about compulsory assignments will be given in the LMS at use, at the start of the semester.
Assessment methods and criteria
4 hour exam at home. Pass / fail.
The study programme manager, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.
