A prerequisite is to have passed examinations corresponding to 75 study points in their education plan, within the beginning of the term where the Master's Thesis is to be written (applies the students attending the master's programme from autumn 2015). Courses on which the Master's Thesis builds upon, have to be assessed to Pass. The topic of the Master Thesis must approved by the University of Agder.
Be able to combine academic and method knowledge through an independent study
Be able to formulate scholary positions in projects
Be able to carry out a scientific study and axplain methodological challenges a social science research
Make an original knowledge contribution based on lessons learned from the study
The thesis can apply theories from the course. A basic emphasis on interdisciplinarity will be assuming one uses theories from more than one subject. Thesis should be empirically based where one discuss practical / empirical issues from two or more perspectives. It opened for both quantitative and qualitative methods.
It will also be offered teaching in scientific writing.
Fieldwork, case data, independent study, guidance and possibly group work/study groups.
Assessment methods and criteria
Individual thesis with an adjusting oral examination. Letter grades. After the adjusting oral examination the grade can be adjusted up or down by a maximum of one grade.
The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1. Information about evaluation method for the course will be posted on Canvas.
