Learning outcomes
On successful completion of the course, the student will:
possess thorough knowledge of the scientifically theoretical foundation for knowledge development
possess advanced knowledge about different traditions in scientific theory
be able to problematize the relationship between theory and empiricism
possess thorough knowledge of paradigms in the theory of science: ontological, epistemological, methodological, and ethical guidelines that influence the research process
possess knowledge of the fundamental differences between qualitative and quantitative research methods
have insight into and understanding of scientifically theoretical and methodological problems
be able to reflect critically on ethical issues in research as well as methodological issues
Course contents
In this course different directions in the theory of science are being focused on. Further, themes related to the connection between philosophy of science and research methodologies are focused on.
