PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers): Control systems based on Step7 and Siemens PLC. Programming languages according to IEC-61131-3 standard. System synthesis based on sequential flow charts and state machines. Object oriented PLC programming. Digital and analogue input/output. Continuous PID regulation. Multivariable systems. Hardware-in-the-loop verification of control systems. Human-machine-interface based on WinCC. Data storage and archiving based on Historian Database.
The course is mostly lab-based, and development and implementation of a major controlling system is included.
On successful completion of the course, the student should
be able to understand and analyse the most important types of electronic controllers.
Teaching methods and workload
Independent work on project in groups of 2-4 students, organized with supervision. Lectures in selected topics.
The course evaluation is completed as a midterm evaluation in accordance with the provisions listed in the Quality Assurance System Chapter 2.1.1. A final evaluation may be completed as required.
Assessment methods and criteria
The project report carried out in group, with oral project presentation in group. Graded assessment.
