The course is problem-based and provides and introduction to problem solving and exploration as work methods in mathematics. In the course, the students themselves work with different methods, and they shall reflect and analyse how different methods can be organized for the use of work-methods in the school`s mathematics education. Related to the current curriculum for 1 to 7th grade. The course includes self-reflection and discussion of literature. Work is carried out on key concepts in mathematical thinking, training in process description, communication of methods of thinking and solutions in mathematical problems solving. The course enables self-reflection throughout the semester whit writing notebooks. It includes student presentation of assignments from the notebook.
The subject in practice
In this semester, the students take three courses: Mathematics Education in Early School Years, Problem Based Mathematics Education and a subject with emphasis on statistical methods. During the 5 days in teaching practice, it will be particularly desirable for students to gain experience in connection with the course on basic mathematics training. This includes various ways of observing, assessing, facilitating and supporting pupil’s mathematics development at the elementary level they are practicing. Especially what is learning-enhancing feedback, also for pupils with special needs.
Joint teaching, work in small groups, compulsory assignments, oral presentations. Digital software is used where appropriate.
It's requirements for attendance at parts of the teaching given on Canvas at the start of the semester.
The course has an expected scope of work of 267 hours.
It is included 5 days practice for the teacher education students. This is a preparation for the teaching practice in the 8th semester.
Other students will perform a didactic work of similar scope as practice.
