Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student is expected to:
have mathematical knowledge to understand and handle geometrical shapes as points, graphs and figures in two or more dimensions
be able to solve simple equations and systems of equations
Course contents
Basic mathematics: Arithmetic, algebra, power and roots. Graphs and functions. Simple trigonometry. Differentiation. Equations, polynoms, introduction to trigonometry. Vectors in plane, space and multidimensional space. Matrices. Quadratic equation. Homogenous coordinates.
Teaching methods
Lectures and exercises in groups. Compulsory participation in some lessons.
Expected student workload in the course is approximately 270 hours.
Assessment methods and criteria
Written midterm examination, 3 hours (40 % contribution to final mark) and final written examination, 3 hours (60 % contribution to final mark). Graded assessment.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.”
