The course has a strong focus on material and object-culture and will raise questions connected to materiality and objects’ function and value from a sustainable perspective. The creative process will include elements such as the poetic function, storytelling, defamiliarisation, deconstruction and rupture.
Immersion within a field relating to a specific field of objects or materials will be looked at in a traditional context. This will give rise to challenges and possibilities within the student's work in contemporary art expression.
Relevant theory from fields such as form culture, crafts, design and conceptual art will be taught and is crucial for the critical evaluation of the student's own works and other peoples work practice.
The course is organized in project work and will contain workshops within traditional and newer types of materials such as readymades. By creating exhibits, the students will be able to explore various curatorial approaches.
Teaching will, in large parts, be workshop based. Exhibit-production will be both in groups and individually. Theory will be presented through lectures and seminars. The work requirements demand that the students will, in large parts, work individually, and individual counselling will be available.
There will be excursions and voluntary field trips as well as visiting guest lecturers to give the students knowledge and experience of the diversity in forms of expression.

Individual exhibition and oral presentation of two selected works from the semester, accompanied by required documentation. The works that are to be exhibited will be known two weeks before the exam. The exhibition will count for 60% of the grade, and the oral part 40%.
