The course has the following focus: Training in analysing and assessing texts from various genres and conveying these texts to the pupils. The course gives an introduction to English didactics including a variety of English fiction and prose from the English-speaking world. The students will be stimulated to analyse texts and themes suitable for the youth and increase their insight into society and culture of the English-speaking world, past and present. Adaptation of varied activities and methods will be central to the course together with a focus on the role of the English teacher.
The subject in the practice period
The course also focuses on preparation for practice, planning and implementation of teaching followed by critical assessment of the taught lessons.
A variety of teaching methods in large and small groups will be used in the course. The focus will be on student activities like group work, oral and written assignments, as well as digital work. There is a 70 % mandatory attendance requirement. A practice period of 20 days is included for students in the teacher education.
The workload is estimated at 400 hours.
The 70% mandatory attendance requirement must be met. The practice period must be completed and passed. For students taking the course as a single standing module, a didactic assignment replacing the practice, must be assessed as a pass.
The person responsible for the course, in consultation with the student representative, decides the method of evaluation and whether the courses will have a midterm- or end of term evaluation, see also the Quality System, section 4.1.
For students taking single standing modules: completed teacher education aimed at primary or secondary school, and the prerequisites of the course, if there are any specified.
