Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student is expected to:
Understand the subject’s correlation to the other courses in the civil engineering program.
Understand and be able to explain basic concepts in geotechnical engineering.
Be able to formulate and calculate simple geotechnical problems
Course contents
Properties and structures in soils, including volume changes, pore pressure, drainage and tensions.
Basic soil studies; such as water content, gradation of soil, water flow in soil, settlements and share strength.
Teaching methods
Lectures, exercises.
Examination requirements
Students must pass the compulsory assignments in order to take the examination.
Assessment methods and criteria
Individual written exam 4 hours. Graded assessment.
Evaluation
The person responsible for the course decides, in cooperation with student representative, the form of student evaluation and whether the course is to have a midway or end of course evaluation in accordance with the quality system for education, chapter 4.1.”
