The course provides students with a basic introduction to genetics and evolution. Topics include Mendelian genetics; DNA structure, replication and synthesis; transcription of the genetic code; translation and proteins; gene mutations, DNA repair; regulation of gene expression; recombinant DNA technology; biotechnology; adaptive evolution; neutral evolution; population genetics; speciation; evolution of sex and sexual selection; the origin and history of life; systematics, phylogeny and cladistics; the evolution of man. This course provides a good basis for teaching of courses at junior high school and high school levels.
