The programme gives an introduction to literature for children and young adults and to reading promotion and the dissemination of literature. Focus will be on recent literature, including both fiction and non-fiction texts. The programme also covers films for children and young adults.

On successful completion of the course, students should have strengthen their knowledge and skills in following areas:
Most of the teaching will be taken as Internet-based distance learning, and it may therefore be taken regardless of residence. Two optional common meetings will be arranged in Kristiansand. There is no separate tuition fee, apart from the regular fee.
All courses in School Library Science have some international prescribed texts. This is mostly Nordic in School Library Science 1 and 2, and mostly American in School Library Science 3. Sweden and the US are leading countries in the field, and they are included as examples in lectures and literature.
The language of teaching is Norwegian.
