The aim is to give a basic physical and sports education primarily intended for the training and instruction of children and adolescents. Based on experience, knowledge and skills in sports developed during the programme, students will be qualified to coach, by planning, preparing, implementing, carrying out, guiding and evaluating all-round physical activity, and will have acquired knowledge of the impact physical activity and environment may have for individual’s development and health.
A central topic will be making acceptable conditions for conducting work within the volunteer sports. This can be done by presenting a selection of activities where the development of relevant solutions related to tasks of movement is important. The position and role of sport in society, the understanding of how performance, development and learning happen in a sports context will be emphasised. Human physiology related to physical activity, and the importance of physical activity in an individual and public health perspective will also be central topics.

The intention is to create a learning environment that develops the students' ability to reflect on and critically evaluate their own work methods facing theoretical and practical knowledge. Various forms of teaching methods are used, such as lectures, group work with supervision, seminars, instruction, project work, student presentations, individual work, practical sports activities and excursions.
All practical teaching and excursions are compulsary with a requirement of a minimum of 80% attendance. Other compulsory teaching will appear from the course descriptions. All compulsory teaching will be specified in Canvas.
Part time students, Hovden:
The teaching consists mainly of groups sessions. Parts of the teaching will be given digitally.
The study programme is part time over two years.
Language of instruction: Norwegian
Parts of the teaching will be given as courses outside the campus in Kristiansand.
For part-time students, Hovden:
Parts of the teaching will be given outside the Hovden area.
Police certificate is required for admission to the study programme.
Full time for ordinary students.
