HR in Norwegian Working Life

Admission requirements

Human Relations Management and Organisational Development is a third year option for bachelor students in Business Administration, and Marketing Management at the School of Business and Law.

External applicants with previous education and experience are also admitted to this one-year bachelor-level programme. Refer to the UiA admissions office for further details.

General description and profile

The one-year programme is intended for students who want to qualify for management positions in private and public sectors, and are interested in working with HR management, organisational development and training issues. Central to the study is how to lead and develop people as the most important resource in businesses.

Learning outcome

A candidate who has successfully completed this programme should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of general competence, knowledge and skills.

General competence

  • awareness of the balance between participation and management, so that the company can be developed as a collaborative arena
  • have a comprehensive understanding of how people and business can increase their learning

Knowledge

  • have knowledge of key HR challenges in working life, especially organisational development, learning, human resources policy, work environment development and coaching
  • know the central rules of labor law, especially collective labor law
  • be able to analyse workplace contradictions, for example, that one must safeguard both collective and individual interests in a workplace, that a workplace can create both health and unhealth, that a workplace can be experienced both as a power arena and a participation arena and that a workplace should appear both as efficient and attractive
  • be able to facilitate learning and innovative processes in a business

Skills

  • have skills in developing personnel policy in a business
  • have skills in managing organisational changes and dealing with work environment challenges
  • have communication skills so that he / she can help develop human resources in a workplace

Internationalization

International aspects are illustrated by comparing how HR management and organisational development are practiced in different parts of the world. Part of the syllabus is also international.

The language of instruction is Norwegian.

Exchange abroad is not facilitated in a one-year programme.

Evaluation

Study programme evaluation is conducted annually in the programme committee in accordance with the Quality System, section 4.2.
Students at UiA are expected to have laptops for use in learning and at examinations, cp. the Examination Regulations for the University of Agder section 12d.
