Executive Master of Business Administration

Learning outcome

GENERAL COMPETENCE (Programme Goals)

The candidate should be able to:

  • analyse key international dimensions related to the core themes in the program
  • analyse how new ideas, concepts or products emerge within relevant fields and be able to contribute to innovation processes
  • apply ethical reasoning in work life and understand how organisations can act responsibly
  • think independently and critically
  • communicate scholarly issues in written texts and oral presentations
  • collaborate in groups to jointly solve problems

KNOWLEDGE

  • In depth knowledge about managing and operating change, innovation and commercialization in their respective businesses.
  • In depth knowledge of practical financial management and financial calculations in decision-making processes

In depth knowledge of various strategic approaches to business development

SKILLS

  • Be able to lead complex organizations in a globalized context
  • Be able to carry out strategic processes and business development
  • Be able to use relevant methods for carrying out professional work in an independent manner
  • Be able to carry out independent academic research with supervision, in line with current norms for research ethics
  • Be able to analyze relevant economic and administrative issues

Teaching methods

The teaching in the program’s courses will take place in sessions consisting of two to three days each term. The sessions will take place during the day (weekdays), and are to be specified further at the beginning of each term.

The courses will be taught through lectures, exercises, work with current business-cases, guidance, written reports and independent studies. By bringing together students with different backgrounds and work experience, the students learn from each other and exchange experiences. This learning process will be reinforced by group discussions, working with exercises and cooperation on the master thesis.

Literature and tuition is both in Norwegian and English

Assessment methods

Students will be assessed through written exams, oral exams, group- based project exercises and reflection paper.

Requirements for continuing in programme

All courses (60 ECTS) in the program must be completed before students can receive guidance on their work of the master thesis.

Occupational profiles / further studies

The Executive MBA may qualify for management positions. Furthermore, the program provides fundamental competence for working in different positions within innovation- and technology- based businesses and business enterprises.

The program does not qualify for admission to doctoral programs.

Qualification awarded

Successful completion of the program awards the degree of Executive Master in Business Administration (MBA).

Evaluation

Study programme evaluation is conducted annually in the programme committee in accordance with the Quality System, section 4.2. Before the meeting of the study programme committee, the student representative may obtain suggestions and ideas from fellow students.

Other information

The program requires a tuition payment.
It is a requirement that all students at UiA have their own portable computer (laptop) for use in teaching and examinations, see Examination Regulations, University of Agder, §12d.
