Higher Education Entrance Qualification.
Prerequisites for direct admission to the second year:
A one-year programme in religion or the equivalent comprising at least 40 ECTS credits in Christianity and other religions. For conditional admission a minimum of 30 ECTS credits in religion must be passed.
The main goal of the programme is to enable the students to understand and analyze religions and world views as significant and identity- formative systems. The students will be acquainted with different methods and theories within the field of religious research. Examples of topics to be addressed: The role of religion and faith in history and today. The creation and contents of holy texts. How do you relate to ethical problems in society and in your personal life? How do religions and philosophies of life play a part in conflicts between people, but also in understanding and dialogue?
Study trips and the possibility to spend a longer period abroad are considered an important part of the programme. The first year of study usually offers a study trip. Religious Studies in Asia (a separate programme description is found on uia.no) may be included as a 30 credit course combination. (See also the below paragraph on student exchange).
The specialization module of the bachelor programme consists of 90 ECTS credits in religion and ethics, six courses on level 1, and three courses on level 2, one of which is the bachelor's thesis.
The third and final year, the minor (60 credits): The students may choose from a variety of relevant studies or course combinations. Choose a one-year study programme (60 credits), two 30 credit course combinations, or one 30 credit course combination and 30 credits free standing courses.

Parts of the program have an international perspective and convey knowledge and understanding of the place of religions in the world and through history. The program explores global challenges and the relationship between different religions and cultures. Some of the prescribed texts are in English, and Religious radicalization, extremism and violence (REL206) is taught in English if inbound exchange students register for the course.
The program structure lets our students study abroad for one or two terms. We offer Religious Studies in Asia (30 credits) as one of our options for student exchange.
A Bachelor's Degree in Religion, Ethics and Society will be a sound foundation for work that requires critical and independent reflection. This includes jobs within the fields of education, culture, publishing and journalism. The programme may also be included in a course of study which provides teaching qualifications and the opportunity to work as a teacher in lower secondary school, upper secondary school and in adult education.
The programme qualifies for admission to the Master's Programme in Religion, Philosophy and Society, which again qualifies for admission to the PhD-specialization in Religion, Ethics and Society.
