Welcome to semester start for International Business
Congratulations on receiving a place at the master's programme in International Business at UiA! We look forward to meeting you at semester start on 14 August!
Introductory meeting for your programme
It is important that you attend the introductory meeting for your study programme:
You will receive an SMS on the day before semester start about registering your attendance. You can only do this after you have received a code which you will get at the introductory meeting of your programme. Further information will be given at the introductory meeting.
If you have not received an SMS, you have already been registered via for example summer school, a preliminary course or similar.
The introductory meetings are mandatory for all new students and students who have been admitted for the autumn semester.
Are you not able to attend the introductory meeting?
All new international students at UiA are allocated a buddy group. We recommend that you get involved right from the start to get to know your fellow students, campus, and the city. The buddies are experienced UiA students who organise social events and do their best to ensure you have a good semester start at UiA. Your buddy will contact you before semester start to provide you with further information.
You will meet your buddy on Arrival Day Thursday 10 August. All international students will meet at Orientation Day Friday 11 August (for international students only).

Events for your study programme
Information meeting for new masterstudents in International Business
The lectures will mainly be held physically. Please note that even though there might be some digital teaching activities this is a campus-based programme.
Also note that two courses are taught in parallel in the first half of the semester with a final exam before the next two courses are taught by the same principle. For this reason, it is very important for your own learning that you attend lectures and start reading the course material from the very start.
At the University of Agder we use the digital learning and teaching platform Canvas.
To get access to Canvas, where you will find updated information about everything you need for your studies, you have to register for classes. We recommend that you register as soon as you receive a username and password – you can do this before semester start. You will receive your username and password via SMS the week before semester start at the latest.
What will you learn?
The ECTS course catalogue gives you details about what you are going to learn in each course (subject), what you can expect and what is expected of you. It is important that you familiarise yourself with the course plan for your programme.
The International Business master’s programme provides students with theoretical insights and analytical skills in handling business management and challenges in international markets. The programme gives students increased cultural understanding and knowledge of international business, making them well suited for positions in enterprises operating in international markets.
During the first year you will have compulsory courses within the programme. In the third semester you can choose electives at the Business School, go on exchange to one of our partner institutions abroad or you can apply for Internship abroad or locally. In the fourth semester you will be writing your master’s thesis together with a fellow student.
Line association
As a master student in International Business you belong to the line association Mercurius. See more about your line association here:
Line associations are student associations that are linked to specific study programmes. They organise both academic and social activities, and gather students who follow the same study programme, across cohorts.
Student associations, activities and student engagement
As a student at UiA you can take part in a number of student activities. During your studies, you can get involved in different associations, and in various councils, boards and committees.
We encourage you to explore these possibilities, and use your time as a student to learn and gain experience also outside the curriculum and lectures. Get involved in what happens outside of your studies - you will receive a lot in return.
