All the happy and satisfied students we meet at our stand make being a part of this feel very rewarding! Students and staff work together to make the city feel safer and to create a positive atmosphere during semester start. We want the start of studies to be a pleasant experience for fadder, new students, and the city’s other inhabitants. The fadder patrol’s role can be compared to the Norwegian “Natteravn” arrangement: civilian security patrols out at night in the city offering help, assistance and someone to talk to. In addition, we hand out buns, bananas and water.
Faddervakt is a cooperative effort between the fadder scheme, STA (Student Organisation of Agder), UiA and SiA Health – with the support and help of the police and Kristiansand and Grimstad municipalities. The project coordinator at UiA is Gro Hodne Gundersen.
The buddy patrol arrangement is inspired by similar initiatives in Bergen, as well as the projects “Kjernekar” and “Lykkepromille”.
