Studentweb opens for registration on June 10th for the fall semester and on December 10th for the spring semester. To be registered for exams, you must confirm your education plan within the registration deadline. You can find your registrations for courses and assessments/exams under <My active courses>, and it's your responsibility to ensure that they are in order before the deadline expires.
Education plan
If you follow the regular study progression, you will be automatically registered for assessment/exams and teaching when you confirm your education plan. Registration for teaching in a course grants you access to Canvas. In some cases, elective courses may need to be added manually (refer to the Manual Registration - Guidance section).
My active courses
Under <My active courses> on Studentweb, you will see all the courses you are registered for this semester. A green checkmark indicates that you are registered correctly, while a red X means that you are not registered.
If you know that there will not be an exam in the course until next semester, it is correct that you should not be registered for assessment for that course this semester.

Postponed exam
Select <Results> from the menu at the top left:
Find the course and click on the <Retake Course> button. If you don't see any button, follow the instructions below:
Ordinary exam - you take the course with the next cohort
Single courses - you have been admitted to a course that is not part of a study plan
Postponed exam - the <Retake Course> button is missing
Extraordinary exam - the course is being phased out
Select <My active courses> from the menu at the top left:
Search for the relevant course
and register:
If the course has teaching, we always recommend that you register for teaching to access information in Canvas. For new/postponed exams, only students who attended the previous regular exam or had valid absences can register.
Contact the examination office if you are taking an exam in a course that is being phased out and you cannot find it in the search.
Postponed exam (re-sit)
The registration deadline for postponed exams is the same as for ordinary exams:
September 1st for the fall semester
February 1st for the spring semester
StudentWeb opens for registration on December 10th and June 10th. You must register for postponed exams yourself within the registration deadline (refer to the 'Manual Registration - Guidance' section).
You are only eligible for postponed exams if you attended the last regular exam or received an approved absence in the previous semester.
At least one student who failed, left the exam blank, or was ill must be registered for a postponed exam by the deadline.
If none of the registered students meet these criteria, no postponed exam will be scheduled, and the students will be withdrawn from the exam.
Retake courses
If you want to improve your result in a course you have previously taken and register for a regular exam, the curriculum and assessment format specified for that semester will apply. The highest grade will stand as per the regulations for study programs and exams at UiA §19.
It is not possible to take an exam in the same course more than three times. If a course is phased out, any remaining exam attempts in the course will be forfeited after 'phase-out exams' (extraordinary exams) have been completed.
Master's / Bachelor's Theses A student can submit a new or revised master's thesis once if the master's thesis has not received a pass grade. There is no possibility of assessment of a new or revised master thesis in the same study program if the student has already received a pass grade in a previous assessment. Unless otherwise specified in the curriculum, a student can submit for assessment one additional time an improved version of a bachelor's thesis and other larger assignments with an individually conceived hypothesis.
Group Assignments For group submissions, there is no opportunity to submit an individually improved version. This means that any improvement of a bachelor's thesis, main project, or other major assignment submitted as a group response must be made by the entire group collectively, in accordance with the regulations for study programs and exams at UiA §26-a.
Withdraw from an exam
To avoid using an exam attempt, you must withdraw from the exam at least 14 days before the exam date. If you do not manage to withdraw within the deadline, you can potentially withdraw during the exam / submit a blank paper, but this will count as an attempt.
This also applies to practice. If you withdraw during the practice period, it will count as one of the two attempts.
Single courses
If you wish to take an additional course that is not part of your program, you must apply for separate admission. Even if you have been granted a place in a single course, it is your responsibility to register for assessment/exams in Studentweb (refer to the 'Manual Registration - Guidance' section).
Number of exam attempts
A candidate cannot sit for an exam in the same course more than three times (courses with equivalent academic content are considered the same course). This applies even if you have been newly admitted to the program.
In special cases, UiA may grant dispensation for a fourth exam attempt upon application. The application must include a justification and any available documentation. You can find the application form on this website.
Exception The number of attempts for practice is limited. It is only possible to complete each practical period twice. Withdrawal during practice will count as one of the two attempts.
Completed study program
Your right to study automatically ceases when you have completed your program. It can be extended for an additional year for students who wish to improve grades or take additional courses, as per the regulations for study programs and exams at UiA §17. Registration for exams after completing your program must be done by sending an email to eksamen@uia.no within the registration deadline of September 1st / February 1st. You must send an email even if you can register on your own. The semester fee must also be paid within the same deadline.
After the following year, you must apply for entirely new admission if you wish to retake a course. If the course you want to improve is not offered as a single course, you can contact the faculty/department for teacher education for access, assuming, of course, that the course is still active.
Please note that the diploma you have received upon completing your program is final. Therefore, an improvement in grades will need to be documented with a regular grade transcript.
