Home exam

There are two types of home exams in Inspera:

  • The assignment is written as a whole in the text editor in Inspera
  • A combined assignment where you also submit a PDF-file in Inspera

Home exams will be almost like the on-campus exams in Inspera

  • You use the text editor in Inspera
  • Inspera saves your work consecutively
  • You end the test with “Deliver now”

What is different: 

  • You sit at home, and you may use all available resources. 
  • You only need to log in with your regular UiA username and password. 
  • You do not need an additional password to start the exam (as in the on-campus exam). 
  • Your machine will not be locked during the exam, and you can enter and exit the programme while taking the exam. 
  • In other words, it is not necessary to use SAFE EXAM BROWSER at home, so you do not have to download that software. 

Combined home exam with file upload

For some exams, it is necessary to submit an attachment. In addition to the text editor, you will have the possibility to upload one PDF-file. The approach is described below.

Log on

  • You log in using your regular UiA username and password.
  • Log on to Inspera: https://uia.inspera.no/ 
  • You will find information about the time and duration of the test on Studentweb
  • The test will open at the exact time
  • Follow the instructions in the test when it opens

Source references

For short online home exams, lasting only one day:

  • Your answer is supposed to be independent work. Communication with other students regarding the assignment, distribution of the assignment text or solution draft is not allowed.
  • In the text you have to quote sources as usual, both by direct quotation, and when you formulate the text in your own words. Check our websites.
  • There is no need for a reference list.
  • All answers will be checked for plagiarism.

Saving your data

While you are typing in the text editor in Inspera, your text will be saved automatically and continuously.  Still, we recommend copying your answer into a Word document as a backup before you deliver.

Technical problems

During the main exam period, support will be available via email (eksamen@uia.no) and telephone (38142353) while the exam is in progress, and until 15.00.

If you have network troubles at startup or delivery, contact support. There is no real risk that you would lose your work, as your data will be automatically saved as soon as the network is back. However,  should you be offline for a long time, we recommend saving your text in a Word document  - just to be on the safe side.

If the assignment is not clear

Attachments - file upload

Applies to a combined online home exam with file upload:

In some cases, you will be asked to take pictures of your answer. Tips for moving an image from your mobile device to your computer:

  • E-mail the image to yourself and open the attachment on the machine.
  • When using a cable, you can upload the image from the mobile to the machine.
  • Or save the image in a cloud solution, such as dropbox.

If you have several picture files you want to collect in one file, you can use one of these solutions:

  • Paste them in a Word-file.
  • Use the app Adobe Scan.
  • Pack them in a ZIP-file.

To create a zip file:

  • Save all the documents in a folder on your desktop
  • click on the file <subject name> on your desktop
  • choose «7-zip»
  • then choose «add subject name.zip»
