Mathematics teaching and learning in Teacher Education and Professional Development
Within the research area Mathematics teaching and learning in Teacher Education and Professional Development, we conduct research on students’ mathematics learning in primary and secondary school, pre-service and in-service mathematics teachers’ professional development. Particularly, inquiry and problem-solving approaches to teaching and learning of mathematics, are emphasised. These approaches include a focus on classroom communication as central to the development of student mathematical argumentation and thinking.
Within our group, attention has been given to algebra teaching and learning. However, our research foci comprise students’ learning within numeracy, geometry and functions, as well as pre-service and in-service mathematics teachers’ teaching of these mathematical topics.
