Projects and programs

  • Fit for delivery. A comprehensive randomized, controlled study in the south of Norway investigating the effect of a physical activity- and nutrition based intervention during pregnancy and postpartum. This project is funded from the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority.
  • Active and Healthy Youth [Aktiv Ungdom med Overskudd]. A school-based cluster randomized intervention study promoting healthy diet and activity patterns, aiming to prevent DE among adolescents. External funded from Aust-Agder and Vest-Agder County, and the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee and Confederation of Sports (NIF).
  • The Active in South Project [Aktiv i Sør]. Population based studies aiming for investigating body composition and health related physical fitness in adult and elderly Norwegians. External funded from “Senter for omsorgsforskning Sør/Agder Research”.
  • OSTEOACTIVE; Quality of life and physical function in patients with osteoporosis. Intervention study focusing on the effect of active rehabilitation on physical function and quality of life among patients with low bone mineral density and a previous fracture. This project is funded from the South-Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority.
  • Strong. Strength Training and Eating Disorders. This multicenter study includes researchers from the University of Agder, Telemark University College and the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences. This is a randomized, single-blinded controlled trial. The main aim is to investigate acute and long term effects of strength training on patients with eating disorders. At present two pilot projects have been external funded from the Telemark University College and the University of Agder. Research applications will be sent NFR and Extrastiftelsen during the spring 2014.
  • I CAN. A Feasibility study, lifestyle changes within cancer treatment. External funded from Oddrun Mjålands Stiftelse for Kreftforskning.
  • Phys-Can: Physical training and cancer - effects and understanding of mechanisms for improving quality of life and disease outcome. - A multicentre clinical trial within a multidisciplinary consortium. External Funded by Swedish Cancer Society, Swedish Research Council, Nordic Cancer Union, and Active Against Cancer, Norway. Se also Phys-Can´s website.
  • Hypertrophy signaling, muscle growth and increases in strength after blood flow restricted resistance exercise.Effects offlow restricted resistance exercise sessions on anabolic signaling pathways, muscle growth and maximal strength.
  • Energy availability, health and performance among adolescent and adult males and females at different physical activity level. The main aims are to investigate the prevalence of relative energy deficiency among male and female top level athletes, high school students and physically active adults as well as  validate and reliability test a comprehensive screening instrument. Finally, a longitudinal follow up of energy availability and associated health- and performance variables in well-trained male athletes representing endurance demanding sports will be conducted. The project is a cooperation between the PASTA research group, Olympiatoppen (OLT) head department, Oslo, OLT South, Kristiansand, Sorlandet hospital, Kristiansand, and the Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. Funding for a PhD student is provided from UIA,  and running costs are partly covered by OLT head department.
