You can now return books to the library

On Monday, the University Library opened for return of books on both campuses. Remember to put the books in a plastic bag before you return them – the books will be quarantined for a week before the next person can borrow them.

UBA opens for return of books on both campuses.

Books to be returned to the University Library can be placed in the newspaper box at the main entrance on Campus Kristiansand – or on the trolley that will be parked on the corner in dry weather. Campus Grimstad also has a book return box with an information poster near the main entrance.

It is a simple and practical solution the University Library uses. On Campus Kristiansand, books are either put in the newspaper box or on the trolley right next to the A building main entrance. Both are clearly marked.

The same arrangement is in place on Campus Grimstad. If you cannot find the box, or it is full, you can call UiA Help on 3814 1000, and someone will come to collect.

All returned items will be in a week-long quarantine before they are entered into the library system.

“That means that books will be registered on the user’s account for a week after return”, says head librarian and head of circulation services, Lone Bak.

But remember – returned books should only be put in the box during opening hours, to allow UiA Help to pick them up.

“A system for returning books has been in demand. Many students are about to complete the semester and would like to return books”, the head librarian says.

She also concludes that the takeaway offer is popular. In April, more than 800 books were lent out, and orders are pouring in, she says.

Returning books:

From 4 May library books can be returned on both campuses

Time: Monday to Friday 08:00 - 17:00 and Saturday 10:00 - 15:30. Not Sunday.

How it works:

On Campus Kristiansand you can put books in plastic bags into the newspaper box outside the main entrance. UiA Help will empty the box during the day.

On Campus Grimstad there is also a book return box with an information poster placed near the main entrance.

If you cannot find the box, or it is full, you can call UiA Help on 3814 1000, and someone will come to collect. The same phone number applies on both campuses.

Please return all books requested by other borrowers as well as other loans.

Should you no longer be in Kristiansand or Grimstad, you can check with your local public library to see if they can return books to us.

The national library transport will also resume on 4 May.

Borrowing books:

All book orders at the library can be done in ORIA. That goes for books that are available on the shelves and books that can be collected through the takeaway service.

And it also goes for books or other items you want the University Library to purchase or borrow from other libraries.

Interlibrary loans:

Most libraries in Scandinavia have not yet started lending and delivering books between the libraries.

The library therefore has many orders on hold which we cannot yet process, but the National Library’s depot library is now receiving bookings.

The online library:

We want to remind you of all the online options available when searching ORIA and other databases the library has access to. But keep in mind that VPN to the university’s network is required for access.

The National Library also offers online access to Norwegian books through Feide login: www.nb.no/utvidet-tilgang/
