UiA is establishing a fast-track committee to see what the University can do to help after the fire in the Moria migrant camp on Lesvos. The Lesvos Campaign will be relaunched.
Updated on 10 September with resource persons and Vipps account for donations.
“We are deeply affected by the tragedy that occurred in Moria, and many feel the need to do something to help”, says Rector Sunniva Whittaker.
The rector has called in a number of resource persons to see what can be done. These are leader of the Metochi Study Centre Kari Grødum, Dean Anne Halvorsen, Head of Department Hanne Haaland, Director Karen-Lise Scheie Knudsen, and Trainee Maria Tønnessen.
“We are trying to put measures in place very quickly, and we are looking at how we can use our presence on Lesvos and the resources we have there”, says Scheie Knudsen who asks anyone interested to contact her if they have ideas or suggestions.
UiA employees have previously raised money for Lesvos through the Lesvos Campaign, and on request from many current and former staff, we are now relaunching the campaign. We use Vipps #103923 – UiA.
The donations will be used for direct aid following the fire in Moria and to support the work among refugees on Lesvos. The funds will be handed over to trusted organisations operating on Lesvos now.
