Take part in the diversity week!

On 21-25 January, UiA invites all to a week of exciting activities and experiences. This will be a great opportunity for students to get to know each other and the university.

"Javel! Mangfoldsuka (Javel! Diversity week) is an effort to show that UiA is a university for all students and employees, regardless of religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation or physical function," Claudia Klostergaard at the Centre for Gender and Equality says.

Diversity week is an extension of previous events for students. It is meant to contribute to a good start of the semester and prevent loneliness among new and existing students, as well as employees.

"We have normally arranged a diversity day at the start of the autumn semester, but now we wish to host an entire week at the start of the spring semester. Normally, there are not a lot of activities at this time of year, and many new students start at this time as well," Klostergaard says.

A lot to choose from

Well-being and inclusion have a lot to say for study results. If you are not thriving, it is more difficult to learn. Diversity week is a joint effort by different organisations. Over the course of the week, more than 20 events will take place.

  • NINVMaja and Rossmann are students at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Music, and will play three lunch concerts in the canteen. Music sets the mood, brings people together and makes for a conversation starter.
  • UiA has a large collection of beat art, and there will be a guided tour of it during the week.
  • UiA should be a safe place to study. Three health and safety courses will be held during the week, focusing on the prevention of sexual harassment.
  • Eli Stålesen, manager of SiA Health, will give a lecture on how to succeed in your studies.
  • Østsia is a popular student meeting spot. Concerts, trivia nights and a lot of other activities are held there. Gisle A. G. Agledahl from the TV-show “Jævla homo” will give the lecture “SKEIV” (queer), and the Thursday trivia night will focus on diversity.

The Student Organization of Agder (STA)supports diversity week. On the “Involve yourself-day”on 24 January, there will be a host of student activities, and the student unions will show what they have to offer. STA will also promote diversity on their website and social media.
