The new university board has commenced its work. At the first board meeting, the new board members were given a thorough introduction to the higher education sector.
The university director, rector and vice rectors presented UiA’s strategy, discussed strategic challenges and explained how Ministry of Education and Research policies affect board work.
UiA’s finance director, academic affairs director and human resources director gave presentations to the board to make sure the new board was given the best possible overview from the outset.
Rector at UiA, Sunniva Whittaker is chair of the board, as per the Universities and Colleges Act. The board elected Tom Fidjeland, CEO in Cameron Sense, as new vice chair.
“I am excited to take part in the development of UiA. It is important for the university to contribute to the region with highly skilled workers as well as research”, Fidjeland says.
Tom Fidjeland also served as member of the previous board and is one of four board members appointed by the Ministry of Education and Research.
The three others are Solveig Løhaugen, lawyer at Wigemyr og Co DA; Lars Petter Maltby, CEO of Eyde Cluster and Eyde Innovation Center; and Professor Hanne Kathrine Krogstrup at Aalborg University.
The university students have two representatives on the UiA Board for the academic year 2019-2020. They are Robin A.R. Moudnib and Mathilde Tomine E. Giske. Moudnib was a board member in the academic year 2018-2019, but Giske is new on the board. She has started her Masters degree in both political science and history.
“I have been a student at UiA for several years and have been a member of the student parliament. Now I look forward to applying my experience and skills and give something back to the university through serving on the board”, she says.
Professor at the Department of Nordic and Media Studies, Gro-Renee Rambø, and Assistant Professor at the Department of Engineering Sciences, Paul Ragnar Svennevig, were elected by the permanent staff in education and research positions. The technical administrative staff at UiA elected Målfrid Tangedal as board member, and the temporarily employed in education and research positions elected Ingrid Lande Larsen.
Substitute members have also been elected and appointed to the UiA board. Pernille K. Rist-Christensen and Jakob Mæland are elected by the students for the academic year 2019-2020. Among the permanent staff in education and research positions were Associate Professors Per Elias Drabløs, Toril Borch Terkelsen and Hilde Lohne Seiler elected as substitute members.
Senior Advisers Ingrid Susanne Andersen and Kristin Skoglund Robstad were elected as substitute members by the technical administrative staff, and among the temporarily employed in education and research positions for the academic year 2019-2020, Research Fellow Mette Marie Næser Seldal was elected.
The Ministry of Education and Research appointed two substitute members. They are Senior Adviser Kari Jussie Lønning of the Norwegian Medical Association and Senior Adviser Joseph Salomonsen in the Directorate of Integration and Diversity.
