"The current rector period ends the coming summer, and we have to elect a new rector," Head of the Election Committee Anne Elizabeth Stie says.

She says that the election next year is considered to be particularly exciting. Professor Frank Reichert, UiA’s rector since 2016, has said that he will not be a candidate for the next rector period. Therefore, the university will get a completely new rector in autumn next year.

"Important for our future"

"I hope that people will know that an election will be held, so we can get as many good candidates as possible. The position of rector is a very important one for the university, and it is very rewarding for the person that is elected. The rector is also very important for the connections we have regionally, nationally and internationally, as well as the direction we as a university will be headed in the coming years. So, the election is important for our future," Anne Elizabeth Stie says.

Determined in February or March

The actual announcement happens Monday this week. The next step is registering as a candidate. All those we are interested, qualified and supported by 10 people in their electoral area can do this in the period 2-14 January next year. The actual election is then held in the period 11-18 February, with a possible second ballot in the period 4-11 March. Employees and students have a right to vote.
