14% increase in the number of international students

276 international exchange students are attending UiA this autumn semester. That is a 14 % increase from last autumn.

225 exchange students will attend Campus Kristiansand, while 51 students will attend Campus Grimstad. At semester start 2017, the numbers were 202 and 40 respectively.

Most students from Germany

“We are delighted about the number steadily increasing. However, UiA must continue to offer courses in English at all faculties in order for a more significant increase to take place,” said Mette Høgbråt Pedersen, responsible for incoming students and adviser at the International Education Office.

Germany is the country where UiA recruits the majority of its international students by a large margin. This autumn, 65 German students will attend UiA, while the French students are the second largest group with 24 people, and Italy is number three with 22 students.

The number of German students is about the same as last year, but there has been a nice increase in students from France, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the US.

“Most of the American students are from close, long-lasting US partner institutions. Those are Oregon State University and University of Omaha, Nebraska,” Pedersen stated.

Also, many long-lasting European partner universities are sending more students to UiA.

“The faculties have been continuously working on this area for several years, and they have made great connections. This work will be continued,” Mette Høgbråt Pedersen said.

Full degree students

In addition to the exchange students at UiA who are here for one or two semesters, 91 international full degree students will be arriving. 61 of these students will be undertaking a master’s degree at UiA, and will therefore be staying here for at least two years, and 30 students will be undertaking a bachelor's degree and will stay at UiA for three years.
