The zoological collection

In our permanent exhibition, a selection of our scientific collections is presented. Experience nature’s fascinating change from the Ice age to the Present, and study Norwegian mounted animals in lifelike environments.

Our zoological collection consists of about 3000 zoological artifacts, of which nearly 1100 are birds, and the remaining are mammals.

The geological collection

The museum houses about 10 000 objects in the geological collection – both minerals, rocks and fossils.

At the exhibition, a selection of the geological collection is displayed.

There is silver collected close to Kristiansand, and rocks that glow in beautiful colours when exposed to ultraviolet light.

The botanical collection

At the museum, you can see a large collection of cacti and succulents.

In addition, you can experience a living collection of plants in the botanical garden surrounding the museum.

Furthermore, there is an herbarium at the museum, consisting of more than 80 000 samples of plants, algae and mosses.
