Terms of borrowing at Agder University Library (UBA)
Agder University Library assumes that the patrons are acquainted with the terms of borrowing. Violation of the rules might lead a to loss of rights.
Our main purpose
Agder University Library is a library for research and studies in the region. The university library's main purpose is to fulfill the need for library services for students and employees at the University of Agder. The library is also available for other patrons who might need the services that we provide.
Normally, students and patrons without affiliation to the University of Agder can borrow books for 60 days. They can renew loans once before the book in question must be returned. Employees can borrow for 150 days and renew twice.
When you borrow books for which other people are queuing, the loan period is only seven days. If someone reserves the book while you are borrowing it, you must return the book within ten days. You will be notified by e-mail, or occasionally by SMS.
Please note that some document types, for instance movies and journal issues, can only be borrowed for seven days. Furthermore, these loans can not be renewed, but must be returned to the library.
For parts of the collection, UBA can determine other loan periods or library-use-only.
Books that we have borrowed from other libraries are subject to the owner library's regulations. This is particularly pertinent in the case of of loan period, renewals, and compensation.
Reminders and compensation fee
As a patron you are personally responsible for documents that you borrow, and that they are returned within the due date and in good condition.
We will notify you some days ahead of the due date and on the due date itself. If you do not return the item(s) in question, we will send a reminder, a notice concerning the compensation fee, and finally for the compensation fee itself. We send e-mails in each case. The notification on due date is sent as sms as well on condtion that you have a Norwegian mobile phone number.
The intervals depend on the loan period for the document in question. If you, for example, borrow a book that is only for one day's loan, you will receive a compensation fee demand relatively quickly. Patrons that do not return a borrowed item that is several weeks overdue, will for the time being be barred from further loans and orders.
The compensation fee does not include account number or due date. A few days after the e-mail with the subject "Compensation fee / Erstatningsgebyr" is sent, you will be invoiced for the missing item. We demand 600 Norwegian krones per document. The compensation fee for dictaphones is 1000 NOK. We do not accept another copy as compensation. Books belonging to other libraries are subject to their regulations. Particularly valuable works are to be fully compensated.
The status of your loans and orders is displayed when you log on to Oria. Please check your spam filter and accept the sender (email@example.com) if you do not receive these e-mails to your inbox.
