Helland is Associate Professor at the Department of Nutrition and Public Health and is a subject Coordinator for specialization in food and meal in kindergarten teacher education and the EVU course: Food and Meal in Kindergarten for Kindergarten Teachers.
Helland is a member of the priority research center Lifecourse Nutrition which focuses on food and nutrition in the early stages of life. Helland's scientific work centers around children of kindergarten age and food and meals in kindergarten. She has especially worked with i) food neophobia and food courage, ii) health-promoting and pedagogical meal practices and iii) the Sapere method.
