Päivikki Lahtinen

Päivikki Lahtinen (M.A. and PhD Researcher on Educational Sciences) is an adviser on social innovation and co-creation at the UiA CoLAB.  Her background is on General and Adult Education in which she has focused on formative interventions for change and development for different work organizations, communities and public sector agencies. She is an expert on collective and continuous learning, change and development via interprofessional working. At the CoLAB, her approach on social innovation and co-creation processes is drawn from sociocultural approaches, cultural historical activity theory (CHAT), and she utilize the Change Laboratory method for social innovation. 

She has studied in Faculty of Educational Sciences at University of Helsinki, Finland. She has carried out by doing ethnographical field work in complex research contexts, such as in high security prisons, in municipal home care for elderly people and hospitals. Before CoLAB, she worked as a researcher in R&D projects (such as in EU Horizon2020-MSCA-RISE Marie Sklodowska-Curie project, 2017-2022), which was entitled as "Improving collaborative working between correctional and mental health services". Consortium consisted members from academic and non-academic institutions from UK, Denmark, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Finland and Norway.  

During her time working in the CoLAB, she has co-authored and published articles and book chapters with international scholars in both peer-reviewed scientific journals and has published chapters and podcasts intended for professional communities. Publications have tackled such as a method for workplace transformation, method for human-centered co-evaluation, wicked problems, challenges in interprofessional collaboration in a health and social work context, and how to enhance creativity by utilizing Learning Design method in context of higher education.

Research interests

Organizational learning, change and develoment via interprofessional working and formative interventions. Her keen interest of research is on socio-cultural- and practice-based theories, qualitative research methods and participatory intervention techniques drawing from Cultural Historical Activity Theory (CHAT) and the Change Laboratory method.

I have worked as a kindergarten teacher and daycare manager several years in Finland, Sweden and Estonia.

General outreach

Better Together - UiS Full series Podcast (2022). People in contact with criminal justice are vulnerable and need help to remain crime free.  In this series we hear about prisoner vulnerabilities and giving them voice in the development of services.  We explore the importance of collaboration, innovation and organisational learning within the criminal justice field and the multiple stakeholders involved.
