I am a PhD research fellow in Civil & Structural Engineering, University of Agder (UiA). My PhD is part of the partly NFR-funded (Norsk Forskningsråd) research project More Efficient and Environmental friendly Road Construction (MEERC).
PhD working title: Strength and deformation behaviour of steel fibre-reinforced ultra-high performance concrete
Supervisors: Katalin Vertes (UiA/OsloMet), Rein Terje Thorstensen (UiA)
Ultra-high Performance (Fiber Reinforced) Concrete (UHP(FR)C) is a relatively new material, with great potential because of high strength and durability, and potentially low environmental impact – if used wisely. The utilization has been delayed mainly because of two factors; high cost because of an oligopolistic market, and lack of design codes.
Presently, the development of design codes is emerging in several European countries. However, this is still at an early stage, and only France has implemented design codes for UHP(FR)C as a national complement to the design code for concrete structures (Eurocode 2). It is provisionally little or no harmonization between the national initiatives.
My project is part of a long-time effort at UiA, focusing on making UHP(FR)C available through production from local constituents. Through my project, I focus on two aspects of UHP(FR)C:
