K2016 ( Universitetsveien 25, Kristiansand )

Guitarist, musicologist, software developer and Phd candidate.

I research the developement and use of digital musical instruments, their technology and aesthetic implications. Participating in the doctoral program at Uia I am writing the thesis ’The digital instrument as medium and machine’.

After receiving a Master’s degree in music and informatics at the University of Oslo, I practiced as musician before starting the company Musicator AS in 1988 with aim of developing software for music creation. This work led to technical and cooperation with important music technology companies in USA, Europe, Japan and China, Roland and Yamaha metioned as examples. Musicator had its time as a prominent brand in all these regions.

The Musicator software was first released as ”The Musicator” in 1989, awarded the prize for ”Best new software” by the Norwegian Computer Society. Later followed further developed versions, up to the last ’Musicator Mcat6’ in 2008.
