Received bachelor's degree in teaching mathematics from Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey in 1987. Obtained M.S. degree in mathematics education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, Illinois in 1991. Completed doctoral study  at the University of Pittsburgh in mathematics education in 1998. The topic of  dissertation study was investigating knowledge structures in inferential statistics.
