Anders Johan W. Andersen is educated as a psychiatric nurse with a major in Health Sciences from the University of Bergen and a Doctoral Degree in Public Health from the Nordic School of Public Health i Gothenburg. For many years he worked together with children, adolescents and their families at the National Centre for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Since 1996 he has been working at the University of Agder mainly connected to the Master Program in Community Mental Health. He was Head of the Department for Psychosocial Health before he became Dean of the Faculty of Health and Sport Sciences in 2016.
Andersen was member of the first editorial board at the Scandinavian Scientific Journal «Tidsskrift for psykisk helsearbeid” from 2003 to 2012 and was Editor-in-chief 2007-2011. For a shorter period he was engaged by the Regional Centre for Child and Adolescent Mental Health Psychiatry to develop a national curriculum for a new multidisciplinary education in Psychosocial Work towards children and adolescents.
In many years Anders Johan W. Andersen has been engaged in questions regarding mental health both as a writer, a researcher and a university professor.
