Professor Carey Jewitt: Fifteen years of Multimodality research - where are we now?
Multimodality emerged on the scene of education and communication research in the late 1990’s. Since that time, it has been taken up across a range of fields, been used to address a broad scope of questions, and has been combined with a variety of other theoretical approaches. Through this work, some concepts and practices have become settled and established, while some new challenges have emerged. This talk reviews the landscape of multimodal research to take stock of the achievements of multimodal research and to ask ‘what is multimodality now?’ and ‘what next?’.
