How do multimodal texts reflect cultural change, and how do they contribute to such change? What characterizes multimodal expressions in education, media and art? The conference Multimodality and Cultural Change aims to address these questions by means of theories and methods drawn from the field multimodal research and related perspectives.
During the past 10-15 years multimodality has developed as an increasingly influential multidisciplinary and heterogenous field of research. Multimodal approaches have proved fruitful tools when investigating texts in education and media, and to shed light on aesthetic artifacts and mulitmodal events such as literature, the visual arts, and music.
We invite presentations that discuss multimodality empirically, methodically and theoretically, with a particular focus on cultural change. The conference languages will be Scandinavian and English.
Following the conference we intend to publish a collection of (revised) papers in a volume entitled Nordic Perspectives on Multimodality (working title).
