IAREP Conference 2022

The IAREP Early Career Researcher (ECR) Workshop

Following the success of last year’s virtual IAREP-SABE ECR Workshop, we would like to offer young researchers a similar opportunity to present their research and receive feedback in a standard face to face meeting with experienced economic psychology researchers.

The workshop will be held on Thursday, June 9th 2022 at the University of Agder, Kristiansand, Norway, on the first day of the main conference prior to the beginning of its official program.

Who is eligible?
PhD students, postdocs and tenure-track researchers in the first year of their academic career who have registered for the IAREP 2022 main conference.

How to apply?

Workshop
Workshop participants are expected to arrive at the workshop venue by the morning of Thursday, June 9th 2022, and give a short presentation of their work, followed by a discussion with a mentor (a senior academic from among the IAREP conference participants and guest speakers) and peers. Coffee and a lunchtime breaks will be arranged on-site. The workshop will close in time for participants to join the main conference reception and the first keynote address. There is no separate fee for the workshop over the main IAREP conference fee.

Best Student Paper Competition 2022

We encourage students (e.g. undergraduate, graduate, PhD) to participate in the Best Student Paper Competition 2022!

The Best Student Paper Competition is a highlight of each IAREP conference.

Elsevier, the publisher of the Journal of Economic Psychology, sponsors the competition.

The winner of the Elsevier/IAREP Best Student Paper Competition 2022 receives 1,000 Euro and a year’s electronic subscription to the Journal of Economic Psychology. The second and third place will receive a year’s electronic subscription to the journal. The three winners will be honored at the conference, will receive a certificate, and will be listed in the associations’ newsletters.A committee of IAREP members will evaluate the submitted papers. The criteria are: (a) interest of the paper topic for economic psychology and/or behavioral economics; (b) quality of research; (c) quality of writing; and (d) contribution of the student to the paper.

THE STUDENT CONFERENCE FEE WAIVER AWARD

The deadline for the Ph.D. Student Conference Fee Waiver Award for the IAREP conference in Kristiansand, Norway, is March 11, 2022.
The IAREP managing committee looks forward to receiving your application for the fee waiver program, if you are a graduate student! 
The award is a waiver of the early-bird registration fee which means that IAREP will pay the registration on behalf of the student.

Award Information

The purpose of the award is to enable five Ph.D. students with limited travel funds to connect with researchers in the field of economic psychology and become familiar with IAREP.

Criteria:

--Strength of student’s written description of why it is important for the applicant to attend

--Strength of the letter of reference from faculty member supporting student’s application

--Students are required have a paper or poster accepted at the 2022 IAREP conference 

Format:

--Application email from the student sent to Leonhard Lades ( leonhard.lades@ucd.ie , IAREP Treasurer), providing reasons for why this funding is requested and other funding is not available. Please list contact information (email, phone, postal address), program of study, university and department, name of the advisor, title of paper submitted to the IAREP conference in Kristiansand.

--Reference letter from advisor or other faculty member stating why it is important for the student to attend the IAREP conference in Kristiansand and confirming that funding from the department (or the project in which the student is employed) is insufficient to cover all of the conference expenses of the PhD student.

--Deadline for submission is: March 11, 2022. 

Post-conference requirement:

After the conference, a 200-word, written summary about the conference experience needs to be submitted to Eva Hofmann, IAREP Secretary (eva.hofmann@uni-graz.at)  by email by July 15, 2022.   

Conference schedule 

The conference will be planned as an in-person conference, and we hope that most contributors will be able to be present in Kristiansand in June. However, we know that the Covid19-situation is difficult to predict and that some authors may be unable to attend because of travel restrictions. We intend to organise some hybrid sessions allowing digital presentations of papers and attendance for authors who are prevented from travelling. We aim at scheduling keynotes and meetings at times we think will be convenient for colleagues in Asia and many American countries. However, note that due to differences in time zones, it may be difficult to be able to participate at all events digitally.

Social program

The social program will include a reception in the City Hall of Kristiansand, a boat trip, and a conference dinner at Kristiansand fortress. 

Oral presentation guidelines

Parallel sessions on Friday and Saturday (June 10^th and11^th) will last for 90 minutes and are planned to include four presenters. Parallel sessions on Sunday (June 12^th) will last for 120 minutes and are planned to include 5-6 presenters. The total time allotted to each presenter is 22 minutes including time for questions and discussion with the audience. Each presenter should leave at least 3-5 minutes for questions.

• The presentation language is English
• All presenters must respect the time limit and pay attention to the signals from the session chair.
• You should bring your presentation on a USB flash drive and copy your presentation onto the computer in good time before the session. There are computers with MS Windows available in each room. Only PDFs or MS PowerPoint (*.ppt or *.pptx) presentations will be accepted. 

If there are more of fewer presenters than planned, the available time should be divided equally between the presenters. The last presenter is kindly asked to chair the session.

Poster presentation guidelines

 Poster presenters are required to bring their printed poster to the conference. All posters should be mounted well in advance in the room of the poster session. Pins/needles will be provided.

A short and precise 2-3 minutes presentation is required per poster. The presenters must be available to present their poster during the poster session.

• The poster/presentation language is English
• The poster should be size A0 and in vertical format.

Posters must be collected before closure (lunch Sunday the 12th of June).

University of Agder (UiA)

The conference will take place at the University of Agder's campus in Kristiansand. It takes only 10 minutes by bus or bicycle from the center of Kristiansand. All sessions will be in the university buildings (you enter through the main entrance and look for the IAREP logo), except for the opening ceremony on Thursday night. The opening ceremony including the keynote lecture by Erich Kirchler will be in the city hall in Kristiansand center. 

UiA has 13 000 students and 1400 faculty and staff members. It is one of the youngest universities in Norway, but its history dates back to 1839 when the first teacher training institution in the region was established. It is a public university with state-of-the-art buildings on both campuses (in Kristiansand and in Grimstad). Research is the foundation of all teaching activities at UiA and covers a wide variety of disciplines. 

The School of Business and Law is one of UiA's six faculties, and the school was AACSB accredited in 2019.

By air

Kristiansand airport is called Kjevik (KRS). There are direct flights to Kjevik from Copenhagen, Amsterdam, and London. There are also frequent domestic flights to Kjevik from Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger and Trondheim. The airport bus service will take you both to the university campus (bus stop Spicheren) and to the city center. 

Flying to Torp airport is also a possible option with direct flights (Ryanair and Widerøe) to and from many European cities. It takes around 3-4 hours to reach Kristiansand from Torp. You may rent a car, or take a taxi from the airport to the nearest bus stop of the bus service, Konkurrenten. The bus stop is called Fokserød. It is recommended that you order tickets in advance for this bus service. 

By boat

Kristiansand is accessible by ferry. Ferries go between Kristiansand and Hirtshals (Denmark) and various cruise ships call on Kristiansand harbour every year. As of April 2022, it will be possible to go by ferry from Groningen in the Netherlands.

By train

The Norwegian railway company operates all lines in Norway. Trains run directly between Kristiansand and Oslo (travel time about 4.5 hours), and between Kristiansand and Stavanger (travel time about 3 hours). Tickets can be bought online. By bus

Outside Kristiansand: There are various bus companies catering for travelers who travel longer distances departing from or arriving in Kristiansand. Information can be found on the following websites:

Getting around in Kristiansand

Timetables and information on travelling by buss within the area of Kristiansand can be found at the website of Agder Kollektivtrafikk AS. It takes approximately 10-15 minutes by buss from the city center to the university campus. The nearest bus stop is Spicheren Fitness Senter. Bus tickets are cheaper if bought in advance, rather than paid on the bus. The cheapest option is to buy a flexicard.

A walk from the city center to the university campus takes about 30 minutes. A bike ride takes 10-15 minutes (some hotels or bike shops offer bike rental).
The scooter sharing company "Ryde" is operating in Kristiansand.
