The SIG 13 "Moral and Democratic Education" of EARLI - the European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction - invites researchers to join the 2020 conference at the University of Agder in Kristiansand, Southern Norway, and to present and discuss their recent research. The motto of the conference is “Creating Democratic Societies – Making Democracy Sustainable” with a particular emphasis on democracy as a challenge for our changing society. Nevertheless, contributions are not limited to this motto. We welcome all research related to SIG13 “Moral and Democratic Education”. We also encourage researchers to include their doctoral students and to participate in the JURE network activities.
The conference team welcomes researchers, professionals, and politicians interested in research about moral and democracy education in Kristiansand in June 2020!
Welcome
The SIG13 scientific committee and the organizing team warmly welcome you to the University of Agder (UiA), Campus Kristiansand, for the SIG13-conference.
In 2015, the Department of Education at the University of Agder established a program Democratic Mobilization to enhance the focus on democratic values in education. Thus, the conference team at the UiA is very happy to announce this SIG13 conference that fits so well to the research profile of the department and at the same time addresses important issues about moral and democracy of increasing international relevance.
We hope that this conference will inspire and engage researchers to build network, cooperate and share knowledge about this important research field.

JURE
We especially welcome and invite young researchers to the conference. We believe that junior researchers benefit the most from the conference if they are included actively in the community of SIG 13.
We further invite all 'young' researchers to our JURE lunch to meet other researchers in the middle of their Ph.D. -period or graduates who have just recently received their doctorate. The lunch is an opportunity to connect with fellow Ph.D.-researchers from all over Europe, exchange ideas and experiences.
Finally, we encourage all young researchers to participate in the JURE network of EARLI. Its primary aim is to represent and support early career researchers on matters of interest to them. The JURE network also offers the possibility to meet fellow junior researchers, socialize, and participate in a European-wide scientific community.
WELCOME!
Venue, travelling and hotel
About the conference venue: University of Agder
The University of Agder (UiA) is organized into six faculties and one teacher education unit. The university has 13 000 students and 1200 faculty and staff members. It is one of the youngest universities in Norway, but its history dates back to 1839 when the first teacher training institution in the region was established. It is a public university with state-of-the-art buildings on both campuses. Research is the foundation of all teaching activities at UiA and covers a wide variety of disciplines.
The Department of Education is one of the academic departments belonging to the Faculty of Humanities and Education and heavily involved with the Teacher Education Unit at the UiA. We are dedicated to research and teaching related to learning processes, didactics, general pedagogy, special needs education, the education of teachers for upper secondary education, lower secondary education, primary education, and preschool teacher education.
Teacher education has the longest history of any subject area at the University of Agder, reaching back to 1839. UiA contributes significantly to academic development and teacher education in Norway. The Teacher Education Unit has close cooperation with 180 schools and preschools in the Agder region for student placement.
Being a driving force for societal and regional development, the University of Agder has close contact with industry, organizations and cultural institutions. It is an internationally oriented university in a region exposed to strong international competition.
