My job: Senior Advisor at Eco-Lighthouse

Really, learning about the EU should be recommended for all (whether you support Norwegian membership or not) since Norway is closely linked to the Union on numerous levels.

Name: Anna Despard Asgard
Study: European Integration Summer School
Title: Senior Advisor
Employer: Eco-Lighthouse

What do you do in your job?

I work within the field of environmental certification, helping enterprises improve their environmental performance. If Eco-Lighthouse certified, an enterprise can use the certificate in the context of public procurement and to prove corporate social responsibility to customers, partners and the world in general.

Why did you choose to study at the European Summer School?

After a long and arduous application process, the Eco-Lighthouse were in 2017 recognised by the EU as an environmental certification scheme comparable to the EUs own scheme, EMAS. The recognition has led to the establishment of ties between the EU and the Eco-Lighthouse, and in this light it was relevant to update my knowledge and understanding of the current situation, and which challenges and opportunities face the EU as well as the workings of the organization itself.

In what ways do you benefit from this course in your current work?

The course has strengthened my understanding of the situation in Europe, and provided useful and relevant competence which I can use now and our future dealings with the EU. The course was well organised, the lecturers brilliant and the curriculum highly relevant. Really, learning about the EU should be recommended for all (whether you support Norwegian membership or not) since Norway is closely linked to the Union on numerous levels. We are affected by what happens in the EU, and we have more opportunity to shape events and decisions than is currently believed to be the case.
