Teacher education has the longest history of any subject area at the University of Agder, reaching back to 1839.
The Teacher Education Unit is organised as an interdisciplinary matrix with activities in both Kristiansand and Grimstad. Five faculties are responsible for the actual delivery of the courses and subjects which form part of the programmes.
The Dean of the Teacher Education Unit is the academic and administrative head of the teacher education programmes, with an academic coordinator for each study programme.
The Teacher Education Unit has close cooperation with 180 schools and preschools in the Agder region for student placement. In addition, it encourages its teaching students to experience either placement for teaching practice or a whole semester abroad as part of their teacher education programme.
