During the Round Table conference, professor Treetip was visiting from Mahidol University in Thailand. She held a guest lecture for the students attending the Master i Music management.
Important to gain knowledge about the consumer
Treetip gave the students an overview of the Thai music industry, and talked about the past, the present and the future. Further, she shared her knowledge of how entrepreneurs in Thailand make a living of the music, how they adapt to the industry and sell to survive.
- The students have to learn about the consumer and what they want. This knowledge is important to survive in the music industry, Treetip says.
International network important
-It’s also very important for students to travel abroad, and see the world outside Thailand. It gives them a chance to open their mind. When you only stay in Thailand, you might think «this is the whole world» but outside everything is quite different. And for musicians, it’s important to be aware of this, Treetip says.
Last year Mahidol University sent two students from Thailand. They are now very successful, and one of them was inspired to start her own business.
-I think the exchange period gave her to confidence to realize her dreams, and she is now a very successful event planner in Thailand, Treetips says.
Treetip got an Erasmus scholarship to learn about the international music business.
- In Thailand we only teach in Thai, but globalization forces us to move on. She brought students with her to Norway, who are also interested in learning about the international culture and education.
-We will definitely be waiting for more norwegian students to come to Thailand, Treetip says.
